Transportation & Logistics Lead

The Opportunity:

Are you an experienced Transportation & Logistics (T&L) leader looking for the next challenge in your career? With thorough knowledge of warehouse procedures, international customs, shipping regulations and best practices, the T&L Lead is an integral part Canadian Natural’s continued success. This is a unique opportunity for a leader who is self-driven, experienced and possess in-depth knowledge of transportation, logistics and import/export.

This individual will directly supervise a team of Logistics Specialists ensuring exceptional customer service to our business units while maintaining compliance for all domestic, import and export material requirements for our Oil Sands and Thermal operations. You will be responsible for building strong working relationships with external suppliers, carriers, custom brokers and government agencies and keeping informed on changes in transport and customs laws and regulations.

Canadian Natural is Canada’s largest independent oil and gas producer, executing over $30 million of air, ocean and ground freight transport and oversees over 60 thousand material shipments annually.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Leadership:
    • Manage with integrity and promote the Company’s culture and values including safety, developing people and having fun
    • Foster an atmosphere of positive employee relationships by constantly engaging with staff, listening to their inputs and applying the information wherever possible
  • Operations Management:
    • Train, develop and manage a team of logistics specialists to execute the service expectations of our customers; coach and performance manage staff as necessary
    • Develop the annual operating budget and monthly reporting on spending variances
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Work with internal and external stakeholders to support the full utilization of loads, efficiency of deliveries and prioritization logistics and transportation activities
    • Develop internal compliance and declaration procedures to comply with the upcoming Canada Customs and Border Assessment and Revenue Management (CARM) program

  • Eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Regular Policy

  • Shift schedule: 5 x 2 (Monday to Friday, 8 hours/day)

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of combined international freight transportation, logistics and operations management experience including 5 or more years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated achievements optimizing global logistics operations and experience in sourcing and managing 3PL carriers
  • Demonstrated success with applicable systems and software evaluation and implementation initiatives (TMS, Microsoft Office, Oracle/Maximo/SAP, transport routing software and strong knowledge of EDI/API technology)
  • Strong organizational and creative problem solving skills and refined business case analysis and value proposition acumen are all essential for this role
