The California Department of Conservation (DOC) is seeking a student assistant for their Bakersfiled office. Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Data Management, Research and Special Projects Unit (DMRSP) and the Program 1 Manager, the student will assist with CALGEM Program 1 and DMRSP unit with office assistant duties and responsibilities as needed and will be exposed to changing workload priorities.

Conditions of Employment
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.

Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcript) and physical exam and drug urinalysis test. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises Inc., (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.

Work Schedule
Flexible hours, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.

Additional Work Schedule

Student Assistants and Graduate Student Assistants generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday-Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (Winter, Spring and Summer).

CalGEM prioritizes protecting public health, safety, and the environment in its oversight of the oil, natural gas, and geothermal industries, while working to help California achieve its climate change and clean energy goals. To do that, CalGEM uses science and sound engineering practices to regulate the drilling, operation, and permanent closure of energy resource wells.

Minimum Qualifications
Recommend for students who reside in Bakersfield or who can come to Bakersfield’s office within a short driving time as the job may need to come to the office sometimes for office equipment.

Must possess the ability to work on a computer; organize large amounts of data and information, learn procedures and methods; work well with others in a team environment; satisfactorily carryout assignments; perform neat and accurate work; and follow instructions completely.
Must have at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Official transcripts of all prior college coursework must be provided prior to employment. Only the most qualified applicants will be interviewed.

Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled at a minimum in: six semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications
Competent in using Microsoft Office 365 software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) through cloud based application and ready to learn new advanced Microsoft software such as Azure to access to workspace.

Duties and Responsibilities
Assist CALGEM DMRSP unit and Program 1 with office assistant duties and responsibilities. Work under the direction of Program 1 Manager and DMRSP unit supervisor to perform meeting and task scheduling. Attend meetings to taking notes and follow up with request as described in meetings which are memorandum, follow meeting schedule, task scheduling and reminder, etc. Draft communication per instruction. Perform all other office assistant duties as assigned by DMRSP supervisor and Program 1 Manager.

Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment, when required, in Bakersfield. Remotely working using cloud-based system to access to workspace. Must have personal PC or laptop with internet connection.

Hours Per Week
Students (part-time) 0-20 hours per week during the academic year, up to 40 hours per week during breaks; (Winter, Spring and Summer). (NSTU)
