Job Description:

This is a professional position for a Project Controls Specialist working for an engineering consulting firm in the oil and gas, mining, and heavy industrial industries. The candidate will be responsible for completing Project Control tasks while working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven atmosphere. The candidate will work directly with the Project Managers to support projects, control project documentation, and report on schedule, project status and budget. The candidate filling this position will be expected to be able to work and communicate within multiple teams. The candidate must be self-sufficient, yet be able to take direction when given, as well as eager to learn and driven to succeed.

Typical Job Tasks:

  • Prepare and update detailed project schedules and interface with clients, engineering and contractors regarding scheduling
  • Assist Project Managers in developing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS)
  • Analyze project performance data and future forecasts to report on project health
  • Create and maintain project discipline lead reports
  • Travel to jobsites as necessary
  • Prepare project status reports and report on Company KPIs
  • Perform QAQC on technical deliverables to ensure quality standards are met
  • Record and distribute meeting minutes
  • Regularly interface with Project Management, Accounting, and other departments
  • Track and distribute project documents

Essential Functions:

  • Understands multidiscipline engineering consulting projects and construction execution.
  • Will be an expert within the industry and will develop procedures to new tasks to help lower-level project controls specialists be successful.
  • Minimizes errors on tasks completed by yourself, department, and project team by completing consistent, thorough QAQC.
  • ZAP is successful when deadlines are met. You will work with your project team to develop schedules encompassing the full project scope and perform weekly updates to the schedule. You will have sufficient knowledge of the industry to create and maintain schedule tasks and logic.
  • Executes project within budgets utilizing task metrics. Communicates clearly and proactively regarding budgets.
  • You will take initiative in analyzing project cost and schedule performance, trends and critical path in order to keep the Project Manager informed and aware of potential risks.

Attendance:

  • Full-time regular work hours between Monday-Friday.
  • Position may require occasional overtime including weekend work depending on task.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Ability to travel up to an average of 10%
  • This is an in-office position. Presence in office is required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management or Engineering preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in the oil and gas, mining, cement, or mineral processing industries
  • Strong ethical leadership abilities
  • Ability to work with a team
  • Outstanding organizational abilities
  • Knowledge of the principles of project controls, cost estimating, cost control, earned value management, scheduling, forecasting, and resourcing
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Outlook, Excel
  • Strong ability to create project schedules with minimal guidance. Proficiency with Primaveral P6 or Elecosoft PowerProject is preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Detail oriented

Employment Type: Exempt / Salary

Salary Range: $73,000 - $90,000, including competitive benefits
