U.S. Silica is a global performance materials company and a leading producer of commercial silica used in a wide range of industrial applications and in the oil and gas industry. As of December 31, 2020, we operated 23 production facilities across the United States. We control 489 million tons of reserves of commercial silica, which can be processed to make 197 million tons of finished products that meet American Petroleum Institute ("API") frac sand specifications, and 79 million tons of reserves of diatomaceous earth, perlite, and clays.

The Company is headquartered in Katy, Texas, and has an office located in Reno, Nevada.

Manages all mine and plant activities related to operations for the Lovelock Site and development of company products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Communicates the organization’s goals ensuring employees are fully engaged and the plant is operated in an effective, efficient, and optimal manner to maximize the capability of the assets in a continuous improvement environment.
  • Develops and maintains the business plans for manufacturing operations including all program requirements, labor hours, cycle, production costs, and company image.
  • Provides input to the development of product strategy and research and development of new and emerging products.
  • Establishes production and quality control standards, develops budget and cost controls, and obtains data regarding types, quantities, specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
  • Provides guidance to the development of a manufacturing process plan, including personnel requirements, material needs, subcontract requirements, facility needs, and tooling and equipment needs.
  • Identifies and establishes requests for capital requirements.
  • Assists in the planning, development, and execution of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) negotiations.
  • Ensures both staff and Union are properly operating under the confines of the CBA.
  • Ensures all established safety, environmental, costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met.
  • Coordinates manufacturing activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Determines responsibilities of the assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
  • Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Coordinates efforts with corporate Directors of EHS, Marketing, Sales, Logistics, Procurement, Finance, Quality Engineering, Master Scheduling, Customer Service, and Continuous Improvement to meet business needs.
  • Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise the Safety Department, Mining Department, Maintenance Department, Production Department, Shipping Department, and various other support functions of the site.
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manager with Direct Reports (Responsible for Hiring, Discipline, Training, Performance, etc.).

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from a four-year college or university; or 20 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Engineering Degree Preferred; Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Industrial).
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Speaks clearly and persuasively in positive and negative situations. Listens and gets clarification. Responds well to questions. Demonstrates group presentation skills.
  • Participates in meetings.
  • Writes clearly and informatively.
  • Edits work for spelling and grammar. Varies writing style to meet needs.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Presents numerical data effectively.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. This includes demonstrated minerals processing and mining experience.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have general knowledge of Accounting software; Contact Management systems; Human Resource systems; Internet software; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Order processing systems; Payroll systems; Project Management software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.
