Stantec’s Edmonton office is currently seeking an Environmental Planner to join our dynamic Assessment, Permitting, and Compliance Team. The position is based in Edmonton and the successful candidate will manage projects through all stages of a project’s lifecycle including approval, construction, and post-construction operation and maintenance. Projects will focus on small to large-scale developments in a variety of sectors including oil and gas pipelines, transmission and distribution power lines, municipal infrastructure, etc. As part of Stantec’s Environmental Services team, the successful candidate will be supported by a diverse and skilled team of expertise needed to address environmental permitting, compliance, and monitoring commitments for our clients. Our team has established excellent working relationships with regulators and clients in western Canada, and our regulatory knowledge, environmental assessment experience, and scientific expertise to allow us to help our clients develop the most effective approach to securing regulatory approvals.
Your Key Responsibilities
Work directly with clients to provide strategic environmental advice and project management throughout all stages of a project’s lifecycle
Prepare budgets, manage scope changes, establish schedules and ensure that project work is carried out within agreed time-frames and on budget
Lead teams of technical environmental specialists to support permitting, environmental compliance, and monitoring for clients in multiple sectors
Provide senior review and oversight on the preparation of technical documents to support regulatory submissions
Provide technical, environmental, and regulatory support for small and large-scale projects through the assessment, application filing, post filing, and post-approval stages
Contribute to and lead business development activities, including writing proposals and relationship building with existing and prospective clients
Support implementation of Health, Safety, Security and the Environment (HSSE) and QA/QC policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines in the execution of all project work
Interact and communicate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, regulators, and clients
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Ability to work with initiative, professionalism, and confidentiality, can work independently, creatively solve problems, and, multi-task and adapt to change in a very dynamic environment
Strong understanding of municipal, provincial, and federal regulations and permitting requirements and environmental assessment process
Demonstrated project management experience with strong attention to detail and experience in client management and business growth
Ability and desire to coach and mentor junior and intermediate staff
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Field experience on construction sites an asset
Education and Experience
M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Environmental Sciences or equivalent field of study; and
A minimum of 8 years of environmental and regulatory project management experience in power distribution, pipelines, oil and gas, etc.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
