We are currently recruiting for a Director for Energy and Utilities across our European Corporate Finance division.

Profile Summary
The primary focus for the incumbent is to lead the marketing and origination of new business opportunities globally across the European client universe, support the origination of new advisory mandates, as well as to take responsibility for managing the risk and credit exposure of the portfolio.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop existing and prospective global client relationships across the European portfolio. Work in tandem with senior country coverage bankers in Continental Europe.
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the issues and drivers of the sector and establish Mizuho as a trusted advisor. Together with the head of the team, set the strategy for the portfolio.
  • Take responsibility for the ideas generation and development of creative solutions and elevate corporate finance dialogue to c-suite of the client universe. Maximise income generation, cross sell opportunities, and return on risk capital..
  • Work closely with the head of utilities and build a joint narrative for the energy transition. Collaborate on ESG related issues and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with product (corporate and investment bank) and credit teams in Europe and globally. Take a lead in orchestrating coverage and product teams across the Group with a problem solver / solutions focus. Establish regular internal and external sector forums as part of the networking and marketing of Mizuho in the sector.
  • Overall credit exposure and risk management responsibility for the portfolio. Manage credit related client requests / proposals through the Mizuho credit approval process. Support the preparation of analysis and business rationale that supports requests.
  • Adhere to the Dual Hat Policies & Procedures when acting in a dual hat capacity for the corporate bank (Mizuho Bank (MHBK)) and the investment bank (Mizuho International (MHI)).

Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • Subject matter expert in energy and oil & gas with an extensive network across the client universe.
  • Demonstrable longstanding experience in senior banking coverage roles.
  • Strong corporate banking skill set, combined with excellent corporate finance expertise.
  • Advisory-led, client focussed and problems/solutions orientated, pooled with strong origination and closing capabilities.
  • Able to anticipate and move fast, work in an agile manner and must be a Creative thinker.
  • Collaborator and team player with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in monitoring and managing global credit lines.
  • University Degree or equivalent with professional qualifications.
  • Language skills
