Do you enjoy working directly with engineers during the verification of: new customer designs, potential new materials, new or improved processes, and added technical capabilities? Then this Engineering Technician position is for you! Every day you will help Minco succeed by fabricating parts for design verification, designing and building fixtures and tooling, gathering and analyzing test data, drafting test plans and reports, supporting the creation of new process documentation, communicating results and concept ideas to engineers and at times, communicating directly to external customers. You will develop skills in test methods, metal fabrication, 3D CAD, heat transfer, thermo-fluid dynamics, temperature control, and product safety used in various industries.
Responsibilities:
  • Provide support to new product design and verification, set up tests, collect and analyze data, review test results, and draft written results, and make recommendations for design improvements.
  • Use basic Design of Experiments (DOE) to identify the interaction between design variables and make design optimization suggestions.
  • Project work will involve an understanding of written or verbal instructions, specification drawings, test specifications and testing equipment, data acquisition systems, and defined procedures while following safety precautions.
  • Apply an understanding of technical engineering principles and practices to collect and analyze data, recognize potential design improvements or problems, and suggest and/or perform additional research and investigation.
  • Work with engineers to design and review basic and medium level complexity components, tooling and assemblies in 3D CAD, in a way that is suitable to machine, cast, mold or 3D print. Create and review detailed drawings for components and assemblies to submit to assigned engineer.
  • Record and analyze measurement data to determine capability of meeting customer requirements, and capability of a measurement system.
  • Review test plans or other written work instructions to ensure data requested is appropriate, and that it addresses and proves/disproves the objectives of design and verification. Submit recommendations to assigned engineer.
  • Recommend updates to or draft work instructions, technical instructions, or standards as directed; provide basic training or instruction to improve a design.
  • Participate in projects to provide technical engineering support to manufacturing, design, quality control, and other departments.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:

  • Associates Degree in a technically-oriented discipline or equivalent two years of experience
  • Two plus years of progressive technical or advanced related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience fabricating parts to specification using machine tools (lathe, mill, grinder, drill press, cutting equipment, etc.)
  • Experience with 3D CAD software

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SolidWorks preferred
  • Interest in becoming, or already a certified machinist
  • Strong experience reading specification drawings, schematics, and other displays
  • Experience fabricating flexible circuits or flexible heaters
  • Understanding technical engineering processes and equipment
  • Understanding of mathematical calculations involving basic analysis and operational data
  • Understanding of problem-solving principles and practices
  • Understanding of engineering software and programs as applicable
  • Microsoft office applications experience (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint)

This position is a regular full-time position located in our headquarters in Fridley, Minnesota.
