About the Role:

WSP are looking for a Data Analyst to join their Highways Asset Management Team in Hertford alongside experienced analysts. As a Data Analyst you will be working on data/spatial analysis tasks for projects which aim to use technology and innovation to unlock sustainable growth and movements across Hertfordshire. You will operate between various teams across Highways to bring a joined up approach to our use of data, developing data science techniques within the service.

Through Hertfordshire’s Whole Client Service, you will be liaising and drawing on expertise from within WSP, Arup and Hertfordshire County Council as well as technology partners, Universities, and innovation bodies to build our data analyst community.

WSP are working with Hertfordshire County Council and Arup as a single, integrated team called the ‘Whole Client Service’ (WCS). This truly collaborative approach sees WSP, Arup and Hertfordshire colleagues working side by side to collectively deliver Hertfordshire’s Local Transport Plan to local communities.

A typical week would include:

  • Developing the use of data within the Hertfordshire Living Lab. Undertaking a series of innovative experiments such as piloting connected autonomous vehicles, IoT devices, wayfinding/navigation tools, digital twinning and more
  • Using structured and unstructured data to solve problems
  • Automating processes to deliver benefits to the Highways service
  • Using data and analytical techniques to measure and monitor the impact of transport projects and interventions
  • Collecting and analysing quantitative and qualitative behavioural data
  • Using enhanced data to optimise modelling, engagement, planning, and design of services
  • Visualising outputs, generating actionable insights, and communicating key findings with stakeholders in a clear and understandable way

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Degree level qualification in a numerate discipline or equivalent technical experience
  • Computer literate. Ability to develop database and spreadsheet tools such as Microsoft Excel and Access. Proven knowledge of statistical tools, coding, programming (eg Python)
  • Ability to work with large and complex datasets
  • Experience of using Confirm, or a similar information system would be advantageous
  • Experience of GIS mapping systems would be advantageous
  • Experience in the production and analysis of performance data from a range of sources, in a complex service organisation, managing both data quality and reporting deadlines
  • Experience of working in a political and/or highways environment desirable but not essential
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and develop relationships with internal stakeholders
