HollyFrontier Corporation in Dallas, TX is seeking a Corporate Safety Specialist that will conduct complex Company Safety and Health assignments. The Corporate Safety Specialist ensures consistent application of Company policies as well as State and Federal laws and regulations at Company owned and operated facilities. The Corporate Safety Specialist is internally considered as a technical advisor.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates safety programs, policies, and procedures and provides assistance to management and professional-level employees corporate-wide to ensure the Company is compliant with all health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Advises management of safety issues and activities necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Provides oversight, as assigned, to one or more of the following programs for all facilities: Process Safety Management, Voluntary Protection Program (VPP), Behavior Safety program, Personnel safety and training, Contractor Safety Management, Industrial Hygiene program.
  • Oversees, develops and conducts corporate safety audits and participates in third party compliance audits of company’s facilities, and permitting programs (e.g. hot work and confined space entry) .
  • Reviews and prepares compliance schedules and inspection reports to assist facilities in ensuring compliance with all related and pertinent regulatory agencies.
  • Proposes company-wide safety policies, plans, and initiatives and implements programs to train managers and employees in work place safety practices, fire prevention, and correct handling techniques for chemicals, toxins, equipment and other materials.
  • Inspects facilities siting standards and fire protection programs.
  • Provides support for company-wide emergency response teams and facility security, including DHS regulation.
  • Represents the company to governmental agencies, the public, and trade/professional associations and interfaces with regulatory agencies to ensure understanding of, and compliance with, all applicable safety and health regulations and requirements.
  • Proposes, implements, and tracks safety performance standards and measures and recommends program improvements.
  • Provides documentation and safety and health analysis for management review.
  • Prepares comments on proposed safety and health regulations, and maintains involvement with trade associations as appropriate.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five years of safety and health experience in petroleum refining, pipelines, terminals and/or oil & gas industry is required.
  • Experience working in a petroleum refinery in a safety and health related role is required.

EDUCATION:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Engineering or related field is required .

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

A Master’s Degree preferred.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Ability to lead and provide technical expertise to facility staffs. Strong communication skills and good technical writing skills. Good interpersonal skills. Working knowledge of process safety regulations and mechanical integrity programs required. Practical understanding of refinery processes (process flow diagrams/mechanical flow sheets, chemical phase separations, and reactions). Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations; advanced reading and writing skills and ability to effectively communicate with others both verbally and in writing. Good understanding of laws, pronouncements and regulations pertaining to health and safety operations. Good planning, organizational, leadership, and analytical skills; and ability to present publicly.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

Certified Safety Professional, Certified Industrial Hygienist or Professional Engineer preferred.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Office-based with travel up to 50% of time required. At times, required to work in a warehouse/plant/refinery/industrial environment, subject to varying weather conditions and required to work in all temperatures, including outdoors. On occasion may work near moving mechanical parts and/or rotating equipment, may be exposed to the risk of electrical shock. May have to work in close confined spaces.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling up to 50lbs, climbing up to 200ft, the a bility to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates , v alid State driver’s license and proof of insurance, and the ability to wear PPE including a respirator with no beard allowed.
